November 20 - Ontario Cup #2
It was an awesome meet this past weekend as the Jets hosted their first ever Ontario Cup event. Thanks go out to all the volunteers from Newmarket and our neighboring clubs. Without your help, this event would not have been successful! Revised Protocol posted here
November 6 - Brampton results just released
Congratulations to all our skaters that competed in Brampton. There were 9 Jets that competed, including Alex, Jessa, Callum, Tyson, Lenna, Trenton, Mackenzie, Pierson and Tyler. Full results will be posted on our Results page (soon), Medalists from Brampton include Tyson with gold, with Trenton, Mackenzie and Tyler all capturing bronze. Well done Jets!
November 6 - Skate sharpening clinic this Wednesday
Bill will be holding a skate sharpening clinic before practive this Wed Nov 9. If you new to the "art" of sharpening, or need a tune up, come out to get some good tips from Bill along with Connor and Jessa.
October 31 - Jets come up big in first O-Cup of the season
Eight Newmarket Jets competed at this first Ontario Cup meet of the season in Cambridge. Jets skaters took home one of each medal. Despite some less than optimal ice, there were some PB's that were also smashed this past weekend. Congratulations to all our skaters that represented the Jets well in Cambridge. Picture below are medalists, Keegan (gold), Cameron (silver) and Liam (bronze). Complete results and protocols are posted on the Results page.

October 18 - Join Coach Paula for Family Fitness Days
Skaters and their families are encouraged to come out to a series of fitness sessions starting Saturday October 22 at the WH Day Elementary School in Bradford. Information is availalbe here. Notices will also be distributed at practices.

October 16 - Great weekend for the Jets in London and Belleville.
Double medals at both ends of the 401! Austin Hendy and Taylor Simpson captured gold at the Western Ability meet in London, while in Belleville the brother-sister team of Liam and Sarah Mulcahy took gold and bronze respectively in their divisions. Full results now posted with protocols.

October 3 - New equipment for sale - limited time
We have made arrangements with a local supplier of speed skating equipment for a small supply of commonly needed items. No need to wait till your first meet to get that gear that you need. Check out the Jets Store link for the items we currently have (helmets, gloves, glasses, neck guards etc.). We are expecting some of the hard plastic skate guards in this week as well. Prices will be the sam as during a meet and include all applicable taxes.

Be sure to check out the items in the Jets Store. As well as club gear, we will feature items that our members have to sell. Want a pair of previously enjoyed skates, or a racing suit that someone might have outgrown, start your search right here. If you have items for sale, drop an email to info@newmarketspeedskating.com with the info.
September 18 - Registration update
If you missed our regular registration session, please bring your forms to the first Wednesday practice on September 28. We have a few spots remaining for the upcoming season.
Members who have used equipment that they would like to sell, can post those items on the "Store" page on our website. Please send a description of your items you have for sale and we can post it on your behalf. Include a picture along to make it even easier for those shopping for equipment.
September 11 - Registration Day is next Sunday September 18
Don't forget our registration for the upcoming season is next Sunday at the Magna Center. We will have the ice for two hours. While it is not a regular practice, you are welcome to get on the ice. If you are renting skates, be sure to come early to get your size. Our supplies are limited.
August 22 - Sue Ellis Camp a great success!
Participants and their parents were treated to a wealth of information from Sue Ellis during her innovative speed skating camp this past weekend. Sue's program emphasized the proper body positioning to increase skating efficiency. Don't be alarmed if you hear skaters referring to "feeling the pinch", "don't moon your momma" and something about "peeing on their shoes"! August 12 - Registration for upcoming season will be September 18
Registration for next season will be on Sunday September 18 at the Magna Center. Pre-registrations will be honoured. The ice will be available from 2-4 (not a full practice!) for those that want to come out for a skate. Come early if you need to get skate rentals for the season. Registration forms will be sent out and posted here shortly. Regular practices will start the week of September 26,

Forms are available in the Registration section. Registration packages are posted for regular Jets members and Interclub skaters.
Skating times
The Jets have secured ice time for Mondays and Wednesdays for the coming 2011-12 season. We plan to run a similar program to last season with our beginner, leisure and advanced members skating on Wednesdays with the advanced skaters also practicing on Mondays. Our skating schedule has been posted.

Club Philosophy
We hope to provide consistent, knowledgeable coaching and guidance to all our members, first time skaters and intermediates through elite level and masters so that they can achieve their goals in the sport. Our pledge is to provide a safe, fun, family environment at the Club to all its members regardless of their ability and skill level. Our goal is to encourage members in learning the sport or speed skating for overall physical fitnessm, and for those members to achieve their personal goals wheter they are recreational skaters or serious competitors.
We further agree to run the club under the guidance of the Ontario Speed Skating Association's authority and rules of conduct.
